An Army Bomb Disposal Team has made safe an old piece of ammunition, found by engineers working in Stillorgan in Dublin today.

The team was deployed to the Stillorgan Grove area, following a request from gardaí, shortly after 2pm.

Engineers found the badly corroded projectile while carrying out river drainage works. It appeared to have been at the location for a long time.

The projectile was examined in situ and rendered safe for transport.

It has now been brought to a secure military location for further examination and is expected to be destroyed by controlled explosion later.

The scene was declared safe shortly after 2.30pm.
