Crowds jeer Environment Minister at Kilkenny homecoming

Environment Minister Phil Hogan was booed by crowds in his home constituency last night as he took to the stage to welcome home the Kilkenny senior hurlers.

Politicians and dignitaries were introduced to the hundreds who turned out to welcome home the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Champions and the Liam McCarthy Cup in Nowlan Park.

However, Minister Hogan got a less than rapturous reception when introduced to the crowd by MC Edwina Grace of KCLR FM in Kilkenny.

The Minister comes from the same area as Kilkenny wing-back Tommy Walsh, Tulroan, around 10kms from Kilkenny city.

Mayor of Kilkenny Cllr Seán Ó hArgain of the Labour Party said: “Unfortunately it comes with the territory at the moment.

“People are very frustrated and very angry.“
