College president asks Govt to reconsider reduced pay
The new president of St Patrick's College in Dublin is calling on the Government to reconsider reduced entry level pay for primary school teachers.
Dr Daire Keogh, who today became the college's 14th president, said he appreciates the scale of the financial challenge facing the Government.
However, he is urging the Finance and Education Ministers to "look creatively" at an alternative to reduced pay.
Dr Keogh has also suggested that the Government should consider incentives for teachers who invest in Masters level education.
