Quinn family to seek removal of receiver

Members of Sean Quinn's family are to apply for the removal of the receiver appointed over their multimillion euro assets, claiming they perceive a conflict of interest.

Acting as a lay litigant, the bankrupt businessman's son-in-law Niall McPartland also told the Commercial Court that the family had instructed UK solicitors over the weekend.

Today lawyers for the receiver Declan Taite were seeking orders directing members of the Quinn family to disclose all details of their financial and tax affairs.

Barrister Andrew Fitzgerald said the Quinns have not co-operated since Mr Taite's appointment in July and not one document had been handed over.

However, the application has been put on hold due to objections by the Quinns who appeared in court as lay litigants following the departure of solicitors Eversheds earlier this month.

Ciara Quinn's husband Niall McPartland, a former solicitor, said the family "perceive a potential conflict of interest with the receiver", but he would not elaborate so as not to impugn anyone's reputation.

Mr Justice Peter Kelly told the Quinns they "couldn't huff and puff, they had to blow the house down".

He has directed them to bring a motion for Mr Taite's removal on October 9.
