Man dies in Wexford diving accident

A 25-year-old man has died in a diving accident off the Co Wexford coast today.

The incident happened south west of the Saltee Islands before 9pm this morning.

The Coastguard said that the man encountered decompression problems when he surfaced rapidly.

He was part of a team of four divers who raised the alarm.

The RNLI and coastguard lifeboats from Kilmore Quay along with the Waterford Rescue Helicopter took part in an operation to assist the diver.

He was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
