Higgins vows not to pay property tax
A TD who has led the anti-Household Charge campaign has said he will not pay his property tax.
Socialist Party TD Joe Higgins has opposed the Household Charge as well as the proposed water charges.
The Revenue Commissioners are expected to become involved in collecting outstanding Household Charge contributions, and they are being told to get involved with the collection of the property tax too.
However, Deputy Higgins said he "won't be alone" in his decision not to pay the property tax when it is introduced next July.
He said the Government are trying to scare people into submission.
Mr Higgins said: "I think it is really reprehensible now, from the point of view of decent taxpayers out there who are really suffering as a result of this bailout and austerity agenda.
"Every day we are treated to a new threat or intimidatory sounds leaked apparently from Government sources, promising ever more draconian measures against the ordinary taxpayers of this country."
