Four held in Belfast after police halt jeep with stinger
A hijacked jeep was driven the wrong way up the West Link road in Belfast before it was brought to a halt by a police sting operation overnight.
Four people were arrested for alleged hijacking, vehicle theft and attempted burglary in Templepatrick, Co Antrim.
At around 9.30pm, two people approached the young female driver of a Vauxhall Astra car and attempted to hijack it but made off when she called for help.
The man then stole a jeep and drove off. A woman with him at the time was left behind and was subsequently arrested.
The man in the jeep drove through Belfast, causing a collision on the Falls Road. He drove up the West Link in the wrong direction before the vehicle was stopped by a police stinger. He was arrested in the Falls Park area.
A short time later two others, a man and a woman, attempted to enter a dental practice in the Templepatrick area and were arrested.
Four people, two men aged 21 and 23 and two women aged 17 & 20, remain in custody.
