Dublin man discovers second Irish supernova

A Dublin man has discovered a supernova, Ireland's second such find.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far away, a star exploded and 123 million years later, the light from this exploding star was seen by amateur astronomer David Grennan, from his observatory in Raheny.

The International Astronomical Union has formally designated his discovery '2012ej' - the explosion happened in a galaxy in the constellation Lynx, 123 million light years away.
