Child in critical condition, woman dies in Mullingar crash

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a two-car crash in Co. Westmeath which has left one woman dead and a child in a critical condition.

The collision occurred at around 6pm yesterday evening at Ballagh on the Delvin Road outside of Mullingar.

A woman in her 40s, who was driving one of the cars, was killed instantly in the crash.

Her two passengers, a 14-year-old girl and a seven-year-old girl, were both taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar.

The seven-year-old girl is believed to be in a critical condition, while the teenage girl sustained only minor injuries.

A man in his 40s, who was the sole occupant of the second vehicle, was taken to Tallaght Hospital but his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
