'Pointless' meeting fails to resolve Dublin Airport taxi dispute
A meeting between representatives of taxi drivers and officials from Dublin Airport Authority has failed to resolve a two day strike by drivers at the Airport.
The dispute is focused on the overflow area for taxis provided by the DAA, which has being reduced by 70 spaces from 170 to 100 for commercial reasons.
Yesterday, the DAA offered to restore 30 spaces as a gesture of goodwill, but the offer was rejected by the taxi drivers.
President of the Irish Taxi Drivers Federation John Usher branded this morning's meeting "pointless".
"We had a meeting here and the meeting ended last night and we came back to a meeting here this morning to try and negotiate a settlement," he said.
"We got the same offer as we got last night.
"The meeting here this morning has been pointless, it hasn't been very successful, and we now have to go back down and tell our members that we've spent an hour, and hour and a half here, and we haven't gotten anywhere.
"And that's basically it - we're still at stalemate."
