Mother and child rescued off Galway coast

A mother and her child have been rescued from waters off Kinvara in Co Galway after the dingy they were boating in drifted up onto Mulrooney island in strong winds.

A canoeist who spotted them notified the Coast Guard just before lunch.

The pair, who were brought back to shore by the Galway RNLI boat, unhurt, are on their holidays from Dublin.

The Coast Guard said that they were never at any serious risk.
