The Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is calling for a complete ban on the practice of sulky road racing - a tradition of racing young horses and ponies on roads and other rough terrain.

According to the ISPCA, the practice completely disregards the welfare of the animal, with many young horses injured beyond repair and others abandoned from injuries.
