Homecare provider to create 510 jobs

The homecare provider Bluebird Care has announced the creation of 510 jobs across the country, it was announced today.

The positions will come on stream over the next six months and will be open to care assistants and support workers nationwide.

The company said that the jobs have been created thanks to the increase in demand for home care services.

Eddie O’Toole, operations director with Bluebird, said the expansion was much-needed as demand is growing for its services.

“A recent report by the Carer’s Association suggests that in order to manage the current carer to cared-for population ratios, Ireland will need an additional 44,289 carers by 2021,” he said.

“We have an exceptional team who are committed to delivering first-class care. In the current economic climate we are delighted to be able to create these new jobs.”

The franchise operation Bluebird Care has 800 people employed in Ireland. The business began here five years ago with one office and it now has 18 bases nationwide with more franchises opening in Wexford, Westmeath, Longford and Roscommon in the coming months.

The franchise business will create 75 jobs in Tipperary/East Cork, Kerry/West Cork and Wicklow; 30 in Carlow/Kilkenny Waterford – currently; 75 in Donegal and Leitrim and in Mayo and Sligo; 80 in the north east counties of Cavan, Monaghan and Louth; 55 in Dublin; 50 in Galway; 32 in Clare and Meath; 10 in Kildare/Laois/Offaly; 20 in Cork; and eight in Limerick.

The Medical devices company Cambus Teo, based in Galway, has also announced that it is to create 35 new positions.

The new jobs will be based in Spiddal.
