An elderly man has died in a car crash in Co. Donegal.

An elderly man has died in a car crash in Co. Donegal.

He was killed instantly when his car left the road in Fintown just after midnight.

The victim, a man in his 70s, was driving along a road in Meenmore, Fintown at around 12.15pm when he lost control of his car.

The car crashed into a nearby field and the man died instantly.

There were no other vehicles involved in the crash and the driver was the only person in the car at the time.

His body has been removed to Letterkenny Hospital where a post mortem will take place

In the meantime, crash experts have closed off the scene pending a full forensic examination.
