Inquest into journalist's death adjourned

An inquest into the death of journalist Eugene Moloney has been put back until the conclusion of a criminal case.

The 55-year-old received a blow to the head while walking home on Camden Street in Dublin city centre in the early hours of the morning on June 24.

The inquest into the death of Eugene Moloney opened this morning, with the journalist's brother Sean giving evidence of identifying the body at the city morgue in Dubln.

The coroner stated that the cause of death was a subarachnoid haemorrhage.

Dr Brian Farrell then adjourned the inquest because the 55-year-old's death is the subject of criminal proceedings.

Gary Burch (aged 21) of Kennington Close, Templeogue has been charged with the 55-year-old's manslaughter.

He is in custody while the book of evidence is being prepared and is due to appear in court again later this month.

He has not indicated how he will plead to the charge.
