Aquazone facility to remain closed following fatal accident

The Chief Executive of the National Aquatic Centre says the Aquazone facility will remain closed until they are satisfied everything is in order at the pool.

Barry O'Brien was speaking following the death of a four-year-old boy at the pool yesterday.

He got into difficulty while playing in the paddling pool at around 6.30pm yesterday.

He was rushed to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown where he was pronounced dead last night.

Gardai are investigating and Mr O'Brien says they are cooperating fully.

"We will conduct our own full investigation in time but at this moment it's all about dealing with the gardaí and answering all of their queries.

"We have actually closed the Aquazone to the public until further notice and we are satisfied that everything is in order. Our concentration is on assiting with the gardaí."
