Cork man dies in attempt to swim English Channel

A 42-year-old Cork man has died during an attempt to swim the English Channel.

Paraic Casey fell ill early today when he was about 1.5km off the French coast.

It is understood he had undergone a standard medical examination before undertaking the swim and had been declared fit to make the attempt.
