HSE boss Magee 'steps down'

The chief executive of the HSE, Cathal Magee, is reported to have stepped down from his post.

The Government is today expected to confirm the move, which comes amid a raft of changes to the structure of the organisation.

The Troika has said spending in the area of health must be reined in as part of the bailout package. Health spending is running at a budget deficit of €280m.

Industry correspondent with the Irish Times Martin Wall said Mr Magee's departure would be formally announced by Health Minister James Reilly this morning at a press conference

He said the entire structure of top management at the HSE is to be replaced by a system of directorates, operating under a director general.
