Send gardaí to Mauritius to review Michaela files: FF's Collins

There are calls for the Justice Minister to send a senior garda investigator to Mauritius to review police files relating to the murder of Michaela McAreavey.

Fianna Fáil's spokesperson on justice Niall Collins wants minister Alan Shatter to raise the matter at cabinet today.

Yesterday the Tánaiste sent Ireland's ambassador to Mauritius to the island to officially register the government's concern over the handling of the case.

It followed the leaking of crime scene photos to a Mauritian newspaper, which published pictures of Michaela's body on Sunday.

Deputy Collins said the Government should go further, and send gardaí to review police files on the island.

"We have what we now know was a botched police investigation…We need to throw every bit of diplomatic and other weight behind this and have our most experienced people there to try to help the case," he said.
