Genetically modfied babies born in US

The world's first genetically modified babies have been born, it has been revealed.

An experimental programme in the US has led to 15 of the little ones being born to women, who have experienced difficulties conceiving, in the past three years and two of the babies have been tested and found to contain genes from three "parents".

Tests on two one-year-old children have confirmed they have inherited DNA from three adults – two women and one man – which have been incorporated into their "germline" meaning they will be able to pass them onto their own kids.

Researches from the Institute for Reproductive Medicine and Science of St Barnabas in New Jersey wrote in the Human Reproduction journal: "[This] is the first case of human germline genetic modification resulting in normal healthy children."
