Dáil awaits Reilly statement

The Health Minister James Reilly is expected to make a statement to the Dáil this evening on his appearance in 'Stubbs Gazette' as a debt defaulter.

Mr Reilly is expected to pledge to pay the money which centres on a property deal in Tipperary. Taoiseach Enda Kenny said last night that the minister intended to pay back his share of a €1.9m nursing home investment that has turned sour.

Dr Reilly holds the smallest stake in a €1.9m euro investment in a private nursing home in Tipperary, according to the Taoiseach.

It is understood a number of investors had agreed to buy out other investors but the deal has never been followed through.

The Taoiseach assured the Dáil last night that his deputy leader and health minister has promised him the money would be repaid.

Enda Kenny backed Doctor Reilly saying he was fully in compliance with all laws governing standards in public office.

A Labour spokeswoman also expressed full confidence in the Health Minister.

James Reilly is expected to address the Dáil later this evening when he returns from Cyprus, where he has been attending European meetings.
