Seanad to hear Orange Order address

For the first time in the history of the State, a member of the Orange Order will today address the Irish parliament.

Grand Secretary of the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland Drew Nelson is due to address the Seanad at midday.

Senators will have the opportunity to respond to Mr Nelson's address, including Sinn Féin members of the Seanad.

The party is not usually afforded speaking time in the Upper House because it does not have sufficient senators.

However, an exception has been made to mark the occasion.
