McAreavey trial faces further delay

The trial of two men accused of murdering honeymooner Michaela McAreavey in Mauritius has been hit with another delay.

Proceedings were held up this morning in a bid to resolve outstanding legal issues.

Former hotel workers Avinash Treebhoowoon and Sandip Moneea deny murdering the daughter of Tyrone football boss Mickey Harte.

The trial had been due to resume this morning with Treebhoowoon set to take to the witness stand for a fourth day.

The case was originally listed for two weeks. It is currently approaching the end of its sixth.

It is unclear when the presentation of the defence cases will recommence.

Co Tyrone teacher Mrs McAreavey, 27, was found strangled in her room in the luxury Legends Hotel on the island last January.

The prosecution claims Treebhoowoon and Moneea attacked her when she interrupted them stealing.
