Fire destroys Dublin pub

A fire which broke out at a pub in south Dublin overnight has now been extinguished.

A fire which broke out at a pub in south Dublin overnight has now been extinguished.

It took nine units of the fire brigade over five hours to put out the blaze at the Merrion Inn, near Saint Vincent's Hospital.

The alarm was raised at around 4.30am this morning and while there has been extensive damage to the building, no one was injured.

Drivers are advised that the Merrion Road is closed outbound between Nutley Lane and Merrion Gates, but access to the hospital is being maintained.

The Merrion Inn employs 20 full-time and part-time staff.
