SF organises 'day of action' against household charge
A "day of action" against the controversial household charge will take place across the country today.
The protest is being organised by Sinn Féin ahead of the introduction of a bill to appeal the tax in the Dáil next Wednesday.
Only 58% of those liable for the €100 tax have registered to pay it. The bill proposes to give them their money back.
Sinn Féin's Brian Stanley said: "If we don't take the burden off ordinary working people, the domestic economy isn't going to start working again."
he added: "The Government needs to put back in the €175m they took out of the local government fund in the Budget. We've told them how that can be done."
