Fiscal Treaty: Counting underway; indication of result expected mid-morning

Counting of votes is now underway in the Fiscal Treaty referendum.

It is estimated that fewer than half of those eligible to vote cast a ballot yesterday.

Early trends are expected within the hour from tallies at the 26 count centres (covering the 43 constituencies) nationwide. A final result is expected to be declared later this afternoon.

After being securely locked all night the seals are now being broken and the ballot boxes are being opened.

Each constituency will feed its result here to Dublin Castle, where official declarations of results will be made.
