Ryanair demands explanation for Dublin Airport's security failure

Ryanair wants the Dublin Airport Authority and the Department of Transport to give a "full and open explanation" about Dublin Airport's security failure.

Earlier today, it was revealed that the airport failed an EU security audit on two counts.

One has since been resolved, while the other is currently being fixed.

The DAA has said that the audit won't have a significant impact on passengers in Dublin - and only those connecting through a second European airport would be affected.

However Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary claims this would mean that flights from Dublin Airport will carry the same security risk as flights from Afghanistan and Somalia.

"The Department and the DAA are covering this up today, in all of their statements all they say is that passengers at Dublin airport won't have any significant impact and that's correct, the impact will be felt on passengers arriving at other airports." he said

"Every flight coming out of Dublin until this matter is resolved will have the same lack of security as a flight coming out of Afghanistan or Somalia".
