CIF: Hundreds of projects waiting for EU stimulus deal

The Construction Industry Federation has said hundreds of projects around the country could be given the go-ahead immediately if the Government secures agreement on an EU stimulus package.

The Construction Industry Federation has said hundreds of projects around the country could be given the go-ahead immediately if the Government secures agreement on an EU stimulus package.

Director General of the CIF, Tom Parlon, said the likes of Metro North, the M20 Cork to Limerick motorway and Thornton Hall prison could be advanced straight away if funding is approved.

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny is understood to have asked ministers to draw up a list of projects to allow the Government to cash in on any financial stimulus package that becomes available.

EU leaders are coming under increasing pressure to inject money into failing economies to kick start economic growth amid growing opposition to the current austerity policies.
