A man has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm to a pensioner.

A man has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm to a pensioner.

The victim, 72, was attacked last weekend at his home in the Doagh Road area of Newtownabbey.

Detectives have charged a 20-year-old man with GBH with intent, burglary and possession of a class B controlled substance.

He is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.

Detective chief inspector Colin Gillis said: “Thanks to the community for their support with this investigation. With their continued support we will continue to robustly investigate these heinous crimes against the elderly to help bring the perpetrators before the courts.”
