Kenny welcomes Vita Cortex dispute resolution

The Taoiseach has welcomed the resolution of a row over redundancy packages for Vita Cortex workers in Cork.

In a statement, Enda Kenny said that the workers have displayed enormous dignity and fortitude throughout their almost 20-week campaign.

Earlier the SIPTU members at the Vita Cortex plant voted unanimously to accept proposals aimed at bringing their 139 day dispute to an end.

SIPTU Manufacturing Division Organiser, Gerry McCormack, said that the workers are glad to be ending their sit-in and going home to their families:

"In their statement that they issued they say that it's a fair and equitable settlement. The terms of it are confidential so we can't go into the details of the terms of it but they're happy as I say its unanimously accepted", he said

"…so hopefully this will bring this long running dispute to an end and the workers concerned can go home to their families"
