A three-year-old toddler in Co Clare is recovering in hospital after suffering serious injuries in a dog attack.

The incident happened on Saturday afternoon when Abbey O'Donoghue and her family were attending her cousin's 21st birthday party in Ballynacally.

The little girl was playing in the garden when the family's Siberian Husky attacked the child, before relatives managed to pull the dog off her.

She was rushed to Ennis General hospital, before being transferred to University Hospital Galway where she underwent surgery yesterday.

Speaking to Clare FM, Abbey's father Cathal O' Donoghue said she suffered extensive lacerations and received up to 60 stiches in surgery, but will make a full recovery.
