O'Connell to be granted Freedom of Limerick

Rugby player Paul O’Connell is to receive the Freedom of Limerick city.

Rugby player Paul O’Connell is to receive the Freedom of Limerick city.

The Mayor of Limerick, Councillor Jim Long, has described the Munster captain as a "terrific ambassador for Limerick both on and off the field".

A ceremony is due to take place for the 32-year-old at Limerick City Hall on Sunday April 22.

The Munster lock said he is delighted with the "massive honour" about to be bestowed on him.

Previous recipients include Eamon De Valera, John F Kennedy, John Hunt, Dr Ed Walsh, Bill Clinton, JP McManus, Terry Wogan and Bill Whelan.
