A number of hospitals around the country are experiencing double-digit rates of absebteeism in some units, according to a report in today's Sunday Business Post.

The figures from the Health Service Executive show that 19% of a 70-strong care staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, Co Louth were out on sick leave in January.

The sick rate leave at Limerick Regional Hospital for the same type of staff was 15% in January.

In contrast, latest figures from IBEC put the general rate of absenteeism in the private sector at about 2.5%.
