Cabinet set to discuss Household Charge today
The Household Charge is likely to dominate proceedings at the Cabinet's weekly meeting this morning.
Around 805,000 of the estimated 1.6 million households liable to register for the €100 fee did so ahead of the weekend deadline.
Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin warned that those who have not paid now face financial penalties.
"More than half the people have paid it," said Minister Howlin.
"The Household Charge is here to stay.
"I think the Government, and I certainly would encourage anybody who hasn't paid to pay as quickly as possible because the longer they delay the more expensive it will become."
