The Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney says restrictions have now been placed around two gun clubs in Cork, following an outbreak of avian flu in pheasants.

The Minister has said that one kilometre restriction zones have been established in gun clubs in Barryroe near Clonakilty where the infection was first discovered.

The pheasants in Barryroe came from the same batch as those in Clonakilty.

However, the Department of Agriculture has confirmed none of the birds had contracted the deadly H5N1strain of the bird flu virus.
