ESB unions to vote March 30 on cost-cutting plan

Unions at ESB are to ballot on a €140m euro cost-cutting plan in a month's time.

The proposals include a plan to cut 1,000 jobs through voluntary redundancy and retirement over the next three years.

The proposed measures would bring ESB staff numbers down to 5,700.

Members of Unite, the TEEU, SIPTU and the ESB Officers Association will have their say on the plan on March 30.

ESB management say they are hopeful of a positive response in the ballot.
