Forty protests will take place nationwide today, in opposition to the Government's water and household charges.

Organisers say the combined cost of the charges will come to €1,000 per household.

Tom Horgan, of the Waterford branch of the Campaign Against Household and Water Tax welcomed the support offered yesterday by UNITE trade union, who have backed the campaign.
