A Cork man has been sentenced to five years in prison, and banned from driving for 20 years, for drink driving.

Twenty-six--year-old Tadhg O'Sullivan of Dean McNamara Place, Newtownshandrum, Co Cork crashed his car on the road to Charleville on December 16, 2010.

He was driving at 160 kilometres an hour in a 50 kilometre zone with three of his friends as passengers while he was three times over the legal limit.

One of his friends was paralysed in the crash.

In sentencing, Judge Patrick Moran called it a 2pure act of insanity".
