Gardaí investigate after toddler is injured on Athlone estate

A toddler is in a critical condition in hospital after being injured at an unfinished housing development in Athlone, Co. Westmeath.

The two-and-a-half-year-old boy went missing from his house in the Coosan Rindoon area at about 1.30pm this afternoon.

He was later discovered in water and has now been brought to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe, Co. Galway.

Gardaí in Athlone are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
