Army bomb experts have defused an improvised explosive outside a private home in Dublin last night.

The Defence Forces described the device discovered in Killinarden, Tallaght, as viable.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team were called to the scene last night at around 8.25pm. The explosive device was found near a vehicle outside the house. No controlled explosion was carried out.

The explosive was removed to a secure military installation for technical examination, the Defence Forces said. It was made safe and handed over to gardaí.

The scene was declared safe just after 9pm.
