Action group to protest Co Laois Eirgrid project
A protest takes place in Dublin today against Eirgrid plans to erect powerlines, pylons and a substation in Co Laois.
Representatives from an action group have been running a campaign for two years against the plans.
The Ratheniska, Timahoe and Spink Substation Action Group has previously won the support of local political representatives in the row, but that was withdrawn after Eirgrid threatened High Court action.
Spokesperson for the RTS Substation Action Group Colm Fingleton, has said local residents won't cooperate with the plans.
Mr Fingleton said: "There will be no coperation whatsoever with the people on the ground here as it stands, so the project will be stalled.
"After that it is really a case of see what happens next. We hope to meet the Minister shortly to see what he is going to do about the situation, because as things stand we will be putting a full stop to this project."
