A new confidential online whistleblower service has been launched in Ireland.
Whistleblowerconfidential.ie is open to anyone who has sensitive information or concerns but is afraid to report them through normal channels for fear of victimisation.
It is operated by Risk Management Ireland (RMI) who will evaluate the complaint and pass it on to the relevant authority or company whilst protecting the anonymity of the whistleblower.
Former Detective Chief Superintendent John McGroarty is a Special Risk Executive with RMI.
He said Ireland does not have a good track record when it comes to whistleblowing but he said times are changing.
Mr McGroarty said: "There's a moment of truth now that people realise that too much damage has been done to our country, and to the future of our young people.
"They would feel that they will speak out - provided that they have a safe and secure means of doing so.
"It's difficult to expect people to destroy themselves by coming forward. They have to be given some assurances that they will be protected," he added.
