Ganley preparing return to European politics

Businessman and anti-Lisbon treaty campaigner, Declan Ganley, is making preparations to re-emerge into European politics, with a dramatically revised vision for Europe.

Mr Ganley who ran unsuccessfully in the European elections in 2009 under his now defunct organisation, 'Libertas', said Europe needs to become more federalised and also more democratic.

Outlining his proposals in today's Sunday Business Post, the businessman said the structure of the EU should resemble that of the United States of America.

He also said the euro currency should remain at the heart of the union.

Mr Ganley said: "Medium to long term, allowing the euro to fail or allowing anybody to pull out of it right now, unleashes centrifugal forces that would put the whole European project at risk and I would much rather not see that happen."
