Transport Minister Leo Varadkar has confirmed that motorists face 16 new penalty-point offences and fines next year when a raft of new rules are enforced.

They include tightening up on seatbelt laws to cover children travelling in goods vehicles, putting a baby seat in the front passenger seat of a car, driving a motorcycle without a helmet and having a faulty light.
