Large crowds expected at Newgrange for winter solstice

Thousands of people across the world will be watching the winter solstice sunrise this morning, as it is streamed live from Newgrange, County Meath.

Weather permitting, the illumination of the passage tomb by the first rays of sunlight will be broadcast from 8.30am, on the OPW's website, heritageireland.ie.
