Students occupy Department office

A number of students have occupied the offices of the Department of Social Protection in Dublin this evening.

The four student representatives are protesting over proposals to increase third level fees in the budget.

They have brought a chemical toilet with them and say they will stay until they achieve their goal.

The students say they wish to speak to either the Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton, or the Education Minister Ruairi Quinn on the matter.

The Union of Students of Ireland president Gary Redmond said the action highlights the commitment of the USI to continue to fight to protect education and Ireland's future.
