Union: No Aviva job losses until March

The union representing workers at Aviva has confirmed there will be no job losses at the firm until at least March.

UNITE representatives met with managment at the insurance firm this morning, after it emerged the company is to axe 950 jobs.

Another 300 jobs are also facing the possiblity of being outsourced.

The union today confirmed positions would go in areas including claims, IT, branch and general operations.

UNITE spokesperson Brian Gallagher said the threat of strike action is still on the table.

"Jobs are safe for now, pending an agreement being reached with UNITE over the next three to four months," Mr Gallagher said.

"(The strike threat) remains on the table. It will not be utililised unless Aviva breach faith in the terms of the agreement which we have reached today, which is full disclosure."
