Man remanded on firearms charges

A man in his 20s has been remanded in custody with consent to bail on two charges of the unlawful possession of handguns.

Carl Maher (aged 27) of 3 Redwood Avenue, Kilnamanagh, Tallaght, Co. Dublin, appeared before Bray District Court in County Wicklow today, following a firearms seizure yesterday.

Gardaí discovered two handguns when they stopped and searched a car at a check-point on the N11 at Coynes Cross, near Ashford.

A woman who was travelling with Mr Maher, was released without charge last night.

He is due before the court again on December 1.
