Two held following armed raid on post office
Two men have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a post office in Tyrrellspass, Co Westmeath this morning.
The raid took place at around 9.30am when two men armed with a knife and a sledge hammer entered the post office, threatened staff and demanded cash.
The raiders escaped with an undisclosed amount of money.
There were no injuries sustained by any staff members.
In a follow-up operation gardaí arrested two men, both in their 20s.
They are both detained at Mullingar Garda Station under Section 30 Offences Against the State Act 1939.
Cash and implements used in the robbery have also been recovered.
Investigations are continuing.
