Four held in connection with attempted Cork robbery

Three men and a woman have been arrested in connection with an attempted armed robbery on a cash in transit van in Co Cork on August 5.

The four, aged in their 20s and 30s, were arrested this morning following an operation in Cork city and east Cork.

They are being detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939 at Cobh and Midleton Garda Stations.

The arrests follow an investigation into the robbery in Glanmire on August 5 during which two men armed with a shotgun and a sledge hammer approached and threatened staff making a cash in transit delivery at a bank.

Following a struggle with staff both men fled empty handed. The suspects made their escape in a car which was later found on fire near Windsor Hill, Glounthaune.
